The Salamander Industrie-Produkte GmbH (SIP) is a German manufacturer of profiles of plastic and leather fibers with its headquarters in Untertürkheim , Unterallgäu ( Germany ).

history

The name of the company is a reminder that Salamander Industrie-Produkte GmbH originally emerged from the shoe branch of Salamander AG .

Already at the end of the 19th century, the sales success of a boot with the name “Salamander” led to the name idea of the company that Jakob Sigle founded.

Until 1913, Jakob Sigle's young company used artificial leather for shoe production that was specially imported from the USA. However, due to the increased demand in the USA, further deliveries were no longer possible. That is why Jakob Sigle decided to acquire the rights for the manufacturing process and to go into the production of artificial leather himself. With the beginning of the First World War , the energy supply to his company headquarters in Hofheim am Taunus was increasingly restricted, so that he started looking for a new location. During his search, Jakob Sigle came across the location in Türkheim , which, in addition to an old wood grinding shop, also included a hydropower plant that was fed by the Wertach River.

This future source of energy was decisive for the purchase of the property in 1917 and laid the foundation for today's Salamander company, which can already look back on 100 years of tradition.

After many years of development, Salamander went into production for the first time in 1936 with its specially made leather fiber material , which was used in shoe heel caps and insoles . This technology has been continuously developed over time and has made the Salamander Bonded Leather division into the world's leading manufacturer of leather fibers .

During the Second World War , the Türkheim site was able to remain fully occupied despite energy cuts, because shoes were urgently needed during the war, and with it the material for shoe heels and insoles .

In 1960, the company began producing heels for women's shoes for the first time in the area of plastic injection molding technology and, from 1973, formed the basis for today's plastic extrusion for window and door profiles in the Window & Door Systems area.

Until 1996 the company had its own road scooter transport . From at Staudenbahn located station Untertürkheim market up on the premises laden with leather waste and liquid latex railroad cars were delivered by road scooters. For this purpose, the company owned two of its own WDM road scooters and a MAN tractor .

The market changes in the shoe industry in the 21st century plunged Salamander AG in Kornwestheim into a crisis from which the Türkheim location was not spared. In the course of 2003 the decision was made to break up Salamander AG and to sell the individual corporate divisions separately from one another.

When Salamander AG was broken up in 2004, the Salamander Industrial Products division became legally independent and over the years rebuilt its group structure.
