Raja Ampat Islands with Salawati |
With an area of 1623 km², Salawati is one of the four main islands of the Raja Ampat archipelago off the coast of western New Guinea ( Indonesia ).
Salawati is in the east of the archipelago directly in front of the Vogelkopf peninsula of New Guinea , and separated from it by the Sele Strait, which has a narrowest width of 1,300 meters. Off the north coast of Salawati is the island of Batanta and further north Waigeo and Gam . To the west is the island of Kofiau and to the southwest is Misool . The north of the island belongs to the administrative district of Raja Ampat , the south to the administrative district of Sorong (both West Papua province ).
The highest point in Salawati is around 700 m high.
