Salida is a small town in the US state of Colorado . It is located in the central part of the state in a wide valley of Arkansas , which is enclosed by the Sawatch , the Sangre de Cristo and the Mosquito Range .
history
Salida was founded in 1880 and was originally a railroad town that was a major hub in the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad network. At the end of the Second World War, the railway withdrew from Salida and the residents concentrated on raising livestock or worked north of Leadville in the now orphaned Climax , where the Climax Molybdenum Company operated a molybdenum mine thanks to its abundant deposits .
Today tourism is the most important branch of the economy in Salida . In addition to winter sports, the offers also include numerous water sports activities on the Arkansas River .
