Salinenstrasse 8 in Bad Kissingen

The former brine reservoir Salinenstraße 8 in Bad Kissingen , the major district town of the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen , is one of the Bad Kissingen architectural monuments and is registered in the Bavarian monument list under number D-6-72-114-336 .

history

The building, which consists of gable walls, sandstone and wooden construction, was built in 1851 by the architect Knorr as a single-storey gable roof structure.

The construction of the brine reservoir had become necessary when, in the first half of the 19th century, mud and brine baths were also offered in Kissingen in addition to drinking cures. In 1837, the architect Friedrich von Gärtner laid a cast-iron brine pipe from the Upper Saline to Salinenstrasse. From there, the brine was brought to the individual spa houses in vats. Around 1870 a new line was built that led from the Upper Saline directly into the Luitpoldbad in what is now the Luitpoldpark .

Joseph von Knorr

The architect Joseph von Knorr was born in Munich on July 10, 1809. He was married to Emilie Knorr (née Weber) and had three children: Adalbert (* 1839 in Traunstein), Pauline (* 1841 in Berchtesgaden) and Theodor (* 1845 in Kissingen).

Joseph Knorr studied law and cameral sciences in Munich between 1829 and 1832. In 1833 he passed the concur exam in mining and salt works. Then he was a saline trainee at the General Mine and Saline Administration in Munich. In this capacity he traveled to salt pans and mines in Germany and Europe and studied at the TU Freiberg. In 1836 he was employed as a saline trainee in Sonthofen at the Royal Bavarian Ironworks. From 1838 he worked as a Sudfactor at the main salt office in Traunstein. From 1839 Knorr was transferred to Berchtesgaden as a mountain master. In 1843 Knorr came to Kissingen, where he made a contribution to the expansion of the Königliche Salinenbad and further drilling of the Schönborn spring. He introduced numerous measures to improve the profitability and productivity of the salt boiler. In 1851 the brine reservoir goes into operation. In 1850 Joseph Knorr received the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit from St. Michael. In 1855 Knorr went to Munich as Oberberg- und Salinenrath. JN Martin is his successor in Kissingen.

In 1864 Joseph Knorr was transferred to the Ministry of Finance as a ministerial advisor. On July 1, 1869, he was appointed the first director of the newly created Oberbergamt. In 1874 he received the order of the Bavarian Crown, which was linked to the personal nobility. From then on he was called von Knorr. Kissingen was raised to a bath by King Ludwig II on April 14, 1883. In 1879 Joseph von Knorr retired. He dies in Munich on October 18, 1890.
