The Bad Kissinger Luitpoldpark is a park on Bismarckstraße in the Bavarian spa town of Bad Kissingen in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen .

The park named after the Bavarian Prince Regent Luitpold is one of the Bad Kissingen architectural monuments and is registered in the Bavarian Monument List under the number D-6-72-114-257 .

Geographical location

The Luitpoldpark is located in the center of Bad Kissingen along the Franconian Saale .

South is Luitpoldpark bounded by the south bridge and the west of Bismarck Street. The Luitpoldpark is located below the Altenberg , which is located in an easterly direction across the Bismarckstraße. Emergence

The development of the Luitpoldpark began in 1871 after the Bad Kissingen Luitpoldbad and the associated casino were built. The Luitpoldbad, now a listed building, was built by architect Albert Geul from 1867 to 1871 .

The royal Bavarian court gardener Jacob Ickelsheimer was entrusted with the planting of groups of trees around the former fountain hall , which is now the location of the fountain hall, which started the creation of the park. The park initially consisted of the area around the Luitpoldbad and was expanded several times during the 19th century.

Along with the Luitpoldpark , several buildings, which are now listed buildings, such as the former electrical center of the Luitpoldbad (built in 1898) and a garden house from 1905 were built.

The former electrical center of the Luitpoldbad , which belongs to the Bad Kissingen monuments, is registered under the number D-6-72-114-303 in the Bavarian list of monuments . The building, built in the neo-renaissance style, is a small hipped roof building made of red sandstone with gray stone integration. With corner blocks, arched openings and gabled central projections, it has classicistic elements. The building initially served as an electrical center and today as a heating system for the Luitpoldbad.

The garden house (D-6-72-114-304) built in 1905 is a single - storey half-timbered building with a hip roof and western arbor . Art Nouveau carvings are attached to the arbor. The porch of the garden house has openings with curved girder lambrequins on.

In 1887, near the southern edge of the park, on today's Preußensteg , the municipal river bathing and swimming facility was built. When the bathing facility no longer met the growing demands, it was demolished and replaced by the terrace swimming pool located on Finsterberg .

Battle of Kissingen

On July 10, 1866, Prussian troops came from Altenberg to the Ludwigsbrücke in the Battle of Kissingen as part of the German War .
