rose Garden

The planning for the rose garden , intended as the “ground floor for the regent building ” , began in 1912. In the following year, 1913, the rose garden was opened in the same year as the regent building. Until 1913, there was a cycling school run by Karl Österreicher at the rose garden site. Plans for a round fountain could only be implemented after the end of the First World War .

When the Ludwigsbrücke was blown up shortly before the end of the Second World War , there was an emergency bridge on the Schweizerhaussteg until its reconstruction, which was completed in November 1946 . A shower system for the US soldiers was built on the meadow north of the rose garden.

In the 1990s, a competition to redesign the rose garden was announced, in the course of which, among other things, the drained soil of the flower beds and the paths were to be renewed. However, the project initially failed due to a lack of money on the one hand and the uncertainty of the building committee of the city of Bad Kissingen as to which of the concepts submitted in the competition should be given preference on the other.

In 1999 the establishment of the Staatsbad GmbH enabled the implementation of the redevelopment plans; In this context, the state nursery took care of the rose garden . Between the Schweizerhaussteg on the northern edge of the rose garden and the Birkensteg above the Mühlbach in the center, beds with alternating plants were created and roses from Provence were planted along the banks of the Saale. Flowerbeds and paths were newly laid out and the fountain renovated.

After the Bad Kissingen flood in 2003, the rose garden was included in the flood protection system in 2005 . There were sheet piles constructed to allow the erection of barriers against flooding; the Schweizerhaussteg was replaced by a new flood-proof building.

In December 2015 an extensive renovation of the older part of the rose garden began. a. the extensive fountain technology underground is renewed. Furthermore, the jumping fountain gets colored water features through the installation of LED spotlights and a projector that is supposed to project images and films on a spray mist. On June 26, 2016, the rose garden was reopened after seven months of general renovation with an investment volume of over three million euros, funded by the Free State of Bavaria with 1.7 million euros.
