Salmānu-ašarēd IV.

Salmānu-ašarēd IV. ( Šulmanu-ašared IV. Or Shalmaneser IV. , Analogous to the biblical Shalmaneser V ) was 782 to 773 BC. King of Assyria .

Little is known about his rule due to the poor sources. Salmānu-ašarēd IV. Succeeded his father Adad-nīrārī III. on the throne. However, his power was apparently severely limited by powerful nobles, especially his highest general, Šamši-ilu . Several campaigns against the kingdom of Urartu in the north have been handed down. He was succeeded by his brother Aššur-dan III.
