The lake trout ( Salmo carpio ) is a species from the family of Salmonidae (Salmonidae) that are endemic in Northern Italy Garda occurs.
features
Adult Lake Garda trout are silvery outside of the mating season with very few black spots on the body and almost no spots on the head. During the mating season, some males develop a dark marbled body color. Lake Garda trout can reach a length of up to 50 centimeters.
Way of life
Lake Garda trout mainly live in water depths of 100 to 200 meters. They feed on zooplankton , and in summer also on ground-dwelling crustaceans . The males become sexually mature at two, the females at three. Mating occurs every one to two years. The spawn is released at a depth of 50 to 300 meters near underground springs. The maximum age is five years.

The lake trout is listed as critically endangered on the Red List of Threatened Species . The main threats are overfishing, water pollution and competition from introduced fish species.
