Salome Matschaidze

Salome Machaidze ( . Georg სალომე მაჩაიძე; dt. Transcription Salome Mach Tschaidse * 1973 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian artist and filmmaker.

Life

Machaidze's father, Avto Machaidze, worked as a set builder for films in Georgia , where two of her uncles are also employed. Her cousin is the musician and filmmaker Nika Machaidze .

Machaidze studied painting at the State Academy of the Arts in Tbilisi and experimental film design at the UdK Berlin with Professor Heinz Emigholz . She completed her studies in 2006. Machaidze occasionally works as an editor , for example for the film The Khodorkovsky case .

Salome Machaidze is a trained painter, and in her last exhibitions she mainly devoted herself to drawing. In these she opens a reference arc from the cultural history of Georgia (folk art, icon painting) to life in the present. Machaidze associatively juxtaposes memories, feelings and dream images. Something similar can be formulated for her experimental film work.

Machaidze is a member of the Georgian artist group Goslab and lives in Berlin.
