Salomon Koninck
Salomon Koninck (* 1609 in Amsterdam ; † August 8, 1656 ibid) was a Dutch painter and etcher .
He was the son of a goldsmith from Antwerp and a student of Pieter Lastman , David Colijns , François Venant and Claes Corneliszoon Moeyaert . Was a member of the painters' guild ( Lukasgilde ) in Amsterdam from 1630 . He had formed himself with Rembrandts , in whose way he painted portraits and history pictures (but with less power of expression and less richness of color ) and sold them. Old men with beards (philosophers) was a popular subject.
Pictures of him can be found in Berlin ( St. Matthew's appointment to the apostleship ; Croesus shows Solon his treasures ), Schwerin ( portrait of an old man ), Dresden ( the hermit ; the astronomer ), Braunschweig and Vienna ( portrait of an old man ).
