Sonja Salvis , actually Sonja Salvisberg , (* 1941 ; † 1994 ) was a Swiss singer .

Life

Sonja Salvis began as a child in the Ländler to sing her father Armin Salvisberg band. Her father also composed himself. When Salvis was 13 years old, her father died of the consequences of a traffic accident. After secondary school, Salvis did an apprenticeship as a dentist assistant. At 17, she came to the Kindli in Zurich as a singer. She attended drama school in Zurich and took singing lessons from the opera singer Sophia Husi and choreography lessons from Tibor Kasics . At the same time, she attended a cosmetics college and graduated as a beautician.

In the early 1960s she gave a concert with Louis Armstrong in the Kursaal in Interlaken . In 1965 she won various hit competitions, a. a. Switzerland - Germany - Austria in St. Gallen , then in 1966 the "Internationale" in Vienna, together with the orchestra of Johannes Fehring- Big-Band, with the song Summertime by George Gershwin . Later she went on a tour with the Red Millers in Denmark and Sweden , u. a. also two months in the pavilion in the Baur au Lac in Zurich. Then Salvis was in America, attended the dance school for modern jazz dance at Luigi (Luigi's Jazz Center) on Broadway . She also trained in American style singing.

In 1969 she was the only singer alongside Vico Torriani in his show at the "Miss Swiss Elections" in Bern, where she performed with Gustav Brom , the 13-man jazz big band from Czechoslovakia , which she only got to know there . From that point on, Sonja Salvis mainly only worked in the CSSR. In 1970 she was allowed to sing at a gala performance at the “Lucerna” in Prague. There were TV broadcasts, records, tours, radio recordings. In 1972 a concert with Waldemar Matuška followed in the Volkshaus in Zurich and in the Stadt-Casino in Basel with the orchestra of Vaclav Hybs .

Salvis' single records were at the top of the Czech charts. The long-playing records were sold to all Eastern countries through Supraphon's Artia production. New recordings with Paul Kuhn and Vaclav Hybs followed, as well as two TV shows in Prague ( Cabinet and Good Evening with Waldemar Matuska ). New records were also resumed. Through a gala appearance in Belgrade with Jean-Claude Pascal , she came into the management of Dieter Breyvogel , the manager of Pascal. During this time she sang not only in the CSSR, but also in Germany.

Salvis was married and had a daughter.
