Sam's Lake is a 2005 horror thriller directed and scripted by Andrew C. Erin.

action

Sam invites her friends Kate, Franklin, Melanie and Dominik to a remote forest cabin on Sam's Lake, after which it was named. Sam grew up in the picturesque place; her father had died there in a hunting accident a year earlier.

Shortly after arriving, Sam introduces her friends to the handsome Jesse, who she grew up with at Sam's Lake. Kate is instantly drawn to him. At the campfire, Sam and Jesse tell the other four about an eerie legend that surrounds this area. A family once lived in a now dilapidated house nearby. However, the son was abnormal, prone to violence, and often hid in the woods for days. His overwhelmed parents took him to a home from which he broke out eight years later. He returned to his parents' home and murdered his entire family. Since then he has lived in the forest and is responsible for the disappearance of many people. He always leaves a doll made of corn leaves at his crime scenes.

The following night, Sam and Jesse persuade their friends to visit the old house. Only Jesse and Kate initially venture into the eerie house and kiss, but are disturbed by Sam. Suddenly something falls through the fireplace and Franklin finds a book. When the friends suddenly hear steps and screams from the upper floor, they run back in panic to the car, on which a doll made of corn leaves is now hanging.

Back in their hut, the friends deal with the book they found. It is the diary of the boy who killed his family. He writes about his life in the forest, the only place that gives him security. After he was grown up and was no longer recognized by the people, he moved to the nearby village and married a woman who gave birth to twins, who, at his request, took place in the forest without medical help, but died. The twins grew up and helped the father to lure people into the forest again and again in order to hunt and kill them. In his last diary entry from 1995, the writer mentions the names of the twins - Sam and Jesse.

Kate, Franklin, Melanie and Dominik realize that they are the next prey of the manhunt. While Kate, Franklin and Melanie can escape into the forest, Dominik is stabbed to death by Sam in the hut. Jesse tells his sister that he suspects that her father, whom they killed a year ago, is still alive and is now also in the forest. Sam doesn't want to hear about it. Together, the siblings Franklin and Melanie chase after and kill them, while Kate can hide. After returning to the hut, Sam finds a dream catcher that was hanging on the door of the hut in which they hid their father's corpse - Sam now also knows that the old man is still alive and hunting his children.

When Jesse finds Kate, he offers her to be his mate, but Sam wants him to kill her. Suddenly Jesse is attacked by the father; however, the siblings can escape. Kate takes the chance to flee as well. Sam and Jesse try to lure their father into a trap. The old man kills Jesse, but is then stabbed by Sam. Now she wants to hunt down Kate, but she lures Sam to the dock and knocks her down with a boat hook. Sam sinks into the lake and Kate can take the key to the car from her.

When Kate drives past the old house where the horror began, you can see that someone is inside.

background

The film was released directly on DVD in Germany on September 27, 2007. This film is strongly reminiscent of the legendary films of the Friday 13th series, but the plot is presented a little more refined and, due to many twists, not exactly the same content. Nevertheless, he is therefore heavily criticized.

Locations

Nanaimo in Canada served as the backdrop for the film .

Reviews

“Kids camping at Crystal Lake, murders according to the ten little negro principle and all sorts of other common ingredients tell of a prototypical teenage slasher, but then things turn out a little different and slightly more original in this well-played and comparatively versatile low budget -Horror movie. Thriller fans will be familiar with the lead actress Sandrine Holt from "24", while many people know her romantic partner William Gregory Lee from "Dark Angel". Solid pastime also for more demanding genre fans. "
