Gary Chang

Gary Chang (born February 22, 1953 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American film composer.

Prior to his career in the film business, Chang studied at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh . He later moved to the California Institute of the Arts , where he studied electronic music.

He gained his first experience in the film business as a composer for additional music. The first film in which he worked in this capacity was The Breakfast Club from 1985. His first film, on which he worked alone as a film composer, was 3:15 - The Hour of the Cobras 1986. The thriller 52, made in the same year Pick-Up meant the first collaboration with the director John Frankenheimer , seven other collaborations followed in the next few years. Another director he works with regularly is Craig R. Baxley .

Chang has mainly worked for television since the mid-1990s.

In 1993, Gary Chang received the BMI Film Music Award for the film Alert Level: Red at the BMI Film & TV Awards .
