Sam Gary

Sam Gary (* 19 February 1917 in Florida ; † 20th July 1986 in Aiken , South Carolina ) was an African-American Blues - Spiritual - and folk - singer . He became known to a larger audience mainly through the years of collaboration with his more famous friend and fellow musician Josh White .

As an ensemble musician (bass singer), Sam Gary was a member of Josh White and his Carolinians and the Almanac Singers in the 1940s, and as a soloist he has his own album on the British label in 1956 - with the support of Josh White on guitar Esquire , whose recordings have also released three EPs. The album was released a year later in the USA on Tom Wilson's label Transition Records .
