Sam G. Bratton

Sam Gilbert Bratton (born August 19, 1888 in Kosse , Limestone County , Texas , †  September 22, 1963 in Albuquerque , New Mexico ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ) who represented the state of New Mexico in the US Senate represented. He then acted as a federal judge at the Federal Court of Appeal for the tenth district.

Bratton first attended public schools. He graduated from Texas State Normal School and then worked as a teacher in Claude and Hereford . After successfully completing his law degree, he was admitted to the Bar in 1909 and began practicing in Farwell . In 1915 he moved to Clovis , New Mexico, and continued his legal practice there.

From 1919 to 1921, Sam Bratton served as the district judge for the Fifth Judicial District of New Mexico. After a new division of the districts he was responsible in the same function until 1923 for the ninth district of the state. That year he was named associate judge on the New Mexico Supreme Court . As early as 1924 he resigned this office after he had been chosen as Senate candidate of the Democratic Party.

After a successful election and re-election in 1930, Bratton remained in the Senate until 1933. During this time he chaired the Committee on Irrigation and Reclamation . He then resigned after being offered the position of judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit . In this capacity he was the successor to John Hazelton Cotteral until 1961, before moving to senior status . His son Howard , born in 1922 , also became a federal judge.
