Sam Haughian
Sam Haughian (born July 9, 1979 , † April 23, 2004 in Johannesburg ) was a British long-distance runner .
In 1999 he finished 26th at the World Cross Country Championships in Belfast on the short distance.
At the 2001 European Cross Country Championships in Thun, he finished sixth. In 2002 he became English cross-country champion and finished 43rd at the cross-country world championships in Dublin on the long distance. He was over 5000 m at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester , where he started for England , fifth and at the European Athletics Championships in Munich Ninth.
In 2004 he died of a car accident at a training camp in South Africa . Olympic champion Mo Farah , who trained with him, described him as his greatest running role model in his youth.
