Sam Moyer

Sam Moyer (* 1983 in Chicago ) is an American artist . She lives in Brooklyn , New York City .

Studies and exhibitions

Moyer, daughter of a painter and a stage lighting designer, studied at the Corcoran College of Art and Design ( Bachelor of Fine Arts , 2005) and at the Yale School of Art ( Master of Fine Arts , 2007).

She had her first solo exhibition in 2008 at Cleopatra's Gallery in Brooklyn with the installation Night Moves . At that time she had discovered large-format moving blankets as a material, some of which she stretched on frames or attached to the wall and painted; or she folded and shaped them. She combined painting and sculpture conceptually and minimalistically . In 2012, on the occasion of the art fair NADA New York (New Art Dealers Alliance), she showed an object made of marble for the first time . A large-format marble installation “More Weight” in the Lower East Side Gallery Rachel Uffner in 2014 attracted attention, as did her exhibits in the Sean Kelly Gallery in 2016.

So far, she has exhibited her works in Washington, DC , New Haven (Connecticut) , Milwaukee , Boston , Long Beach (California) , Toronto , especially in New York City and Berlin . In 2009 she was represented in the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis , in 2010 in the PS1 of the Museum of Modern Art ( Greater New York , 2010).
