Samantha Hunt
Samantha Hunt (born 1971 in Mount Kisco , New York ) is an American writer.
Life
Samantha Hunt is the youngest of six children, her mother paints occasionally, and her father is an editor. She studied geology and literature at the University of Vermont and received an MFA from the Warren Wilson College MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College .
Samantha Hunt's essays and short stories may appear. a. in The New Yorker , New York Times Magazine , McSweeney's , Esquire , The Village Voice , Tin House , New York Magazine and Harper's Bazaar as well as on the radio show This American Life . Her first novel, The Seas , received the National Book Award for writers under 35 and was nominated for the Orange Prize , and her second novel, The Invention of Everything Else, about the inventor Nikola Teslawas shortlisted there and also received the 2010 Bard Fiction Prize from Bard College . She also wrote the introduction to a new edition of Tesla's autobiographical essays. Her play The Difference Engine is about the inventor Charles Babbage and was released in 2003 at the Theater of a Two-Headed Calf .
Hunt teaches writing at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn . She lives in Tivoli (New York).
