Tivoli is a village in Dutchess County in the US state of New York . In 2010 the place had 1118 inhabitants. The Village was from portions of Upper Red Hook Landing and Madalin 1872 incorporated and located in the northwest of the Town of Red Hook . It is the northernmost settlement in the county and belongs to the Metropolitan Statistical Area Poughkeepsie - Newburgh - Middletown . The place is entirely within the Hudson River Historic District , a National Historic Landmark .

history

The region was part of the Schuyler patent, with which in 1788 some of the towns and villages in what is now Dutchess County and the region around Poughkeepsie were established. Tivoli emerged from two earlier settlements, Upper Red Hook Landing and Madalin, which were combined to form the Village of Tivoli in 1872. Eleanor Roosevelt lived in Tivoli in the 1890s.
