The Salzalpensteig ( spelling : SalzAlpenSteig) is a long-distance hiking trail in Bavaria and Austria that was opened in May 2015 . It is intended to trace the history of salt production in the region and runs over 233 km with 18 daily stages from Bavaria via Salzburg to Upper Austria . In addition, there are a total of 26 tours for circular hikes over 7 to 50 km and several ascents and descents from historic saltworks towns such as Rosenheim and Traunstein .
history
In 2008, the Berchtesgaden-Königssee tourist region and the Bavarian State Baths Bad Reichenhall / Bayerisch Gmain came up with the idea of combining the history of salt into a hiking trail based on existing salt hikes along brine pipes and sights. After a feasibility study in 2009, a joint project was developed with other partners in Bavaria and Austria, which was submitted to the European Regional Development Fund INTERREG and the State of Upper Austria for funding.
Chiemsee-Alpenland Tourismus, Chiemgau Tourismus, Berchtesgaden-Königssee Tourist Region, Tennengau Guest Service and the Dachstein-Salzkammergutwaren Tourist Association are the official project partners. The Kur-GmbH Bad Reichenhall and the state of Upper Austria granted co-financing. The Salzalpensteig was opened in May 2015. In addition, the Salzalpensteig und -Touren eV was founded to promote the sustainable development of the Salzalpensteig.
