Scheffau am Tennengebirge is a municipality with 1413 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in Lammertal , Tennengau (Hallein district) in the Salzburg region , Austria . The responsible judicial district is Hallein .
geography
The community is located on the northern roof of the Tennengebirge , which is up to 2300 m high and forms the border to the Pongau in the south . In the north the community has a share in the up to 1600 m high Osterhorn group , in particular in the Black Mountain ( 1584 m above sea level ), which lies south-east of the group like an island mountain . This area belongs to the Salzburg Limestone Foothills or the Salzkammergut Mountains .
The Lammer flow as the main flow east to west through the municipality.
The main settlement area is in the Lammertal in the villages of Unterscheffau and Oberscheffau .

The municipality includes the following four localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):

 - Voregg (96)
 - Wallingwinkl (124)
 - Weitenau (47)
 
The community consists of the cadastral communities Scheffau, Voregg and Weitenau , the latter also including Wallingwinkl.
Until the end of May 1923, the community belonged to the Golling judicial district , and since June 1, 1923, it has been part of the Hallein judicial district .

history
Scheffau was first mentioned in a document as Scheffawe in 1249. The St. Ulrich's Church in Scheffau probably dates from this time, as a parish church for the whole of Lammertal , it was known as a pilgrimage church .
The municipality of Scheffau became independent with the separation from Golling through the creation of local communities in 1849 .
In 1939, when large municipalities were formed all over Austria after the Anschluss , the districts of Weitenau and Wallingwinkl were incorporated into the market town of Abtenau.
