Samherji is a fishing company from Iceland . It is the largest in the country and one of the largest in Europe . the company was founded in 1972 in Grindavík , the head office is in Akureyri . Samherji has a network of subsidiaries around the world. The company has around 1,600 employees, around half of them in Iceland.

1983 Þorsteinn Már Baldvinsson , Kristján Vilhelmsson and Þorsteinn Vilhelmsson took over a large part of the company shares. You have been in charge there ever since.

2017 presented Samherji three modern, on the Turkish shipyard Cemre Shipyard built trawler type ST120101 into service in November 2019 joined Þorsteinn Már Baldvinsson as managing director in the investigations in the international Fishrot affair back. He and the company are said to have corrupted and bribed high-ranking politicians and business people in Namibia .

In 1998 Samherji began to take over shares in the Deutsche Fischfang Union GmbH & Co. KG (DFFU) in Cuxhaven . The DFFU was created from a merger of various German fishing shipping companies. Samherji gradually took over all shares.

With the frost trawlers "Berlin" and "Cuxhaven", which were delivered in 2017, the DFFU is managing two modern fishing vessels of the type NVC 374 WP .

The DFFU is a member of the German Deep Sea Fisheries Association .
