Lambrecht-Schadeberg Collection

The Lambrecht-Schadeberg Collection contains outstanding works from all phases of the Rubens Prize winners of the City of Siegen . The collection currently includes around 200 works by Hans Hartung , Giorgio Morandi , Francis Bacon , Antoni Tàpies , Fritz Winter , Emil Schumacher , Cy Twombly , Rupprecht Geiger , Lucian Freud , Maria Lassnig , Sigmar Polke and Bridget Riley .

The Lambrecht-Schadeberg Collection / Rubens Prize Winner of the City of Siegen - as the official name is - is permanently exhibited in the Museum of Contemporary Art Siegen . Representative works from the various work phases ( contemporary art ) of the Rubens Prize winners can be seen there in changing presentations . The individual artistic positions - as life's works - offer an insight into European painting history. The Lambrecht-Schadeberg Collection is regarded as one of the “most beautiful art collections in Germany”. The painting collection is anchored in the cultural life of the Siegerland.

Barbara Lambrecht-Schadeberg

Barbara Lambrecht-Schadeberg (* 1935) grew up in Siegerland - in Krombach and Kreuztal. After graduating from high school, she began to study law that she completed with the assessor exam . In 1961 Barbara Lambrecht-Schadeberg became a partner in the Krombacher brewery Bernhard Schadeberg GmbH & Co. KG in Kreuztal-Krombach. Since then she has headed the company together with Friedrich Schadeberg and his children Petra Schadeberg-Herrmann and Bernhard Schadeberg . In addition to her commitment to the visual arts , Barbara Lambrecht-Schadeberg u. a. also active sponsor of the Siegen Apollo Theater and the Philharmonie Südwestfalen . In 1994 she set up the Barbara Schadeberg Foundation to promote Christian education and upbringing.

In 2002 Barbara Lambrecht-Schadeberg received honorary citizenship of the city of Siegen, in 2014 she was honored with the James Simon Prize for her cultural and social commitment , and in March 2016 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class. In 2017 she received the Maecenas award from the working group of independent cultural institutes.

Before she devoted herself to the works of the Rubens Prize winners, u Lambrecht-Schadeberg collected Impressionist and Post- Impressionist paintings . The realignment of her passion for collecting went hand in hand with efforts to re-establish a Siegen museum for contemporary art . In 1997, Barbara Lambrecht-Schadeberg founded the Peter Paul Rubens Foundation as the first female president. This made her a pioneer and patron of the Museum of Contemporary Art Siegen, which opened in 2001. She gave her painting collection to the foundation, which is responsible for running the museum, on permanent loan. In 2015, Lambrecht-Schadeberg announced its withdrawal from the foundation's board of directors and legally secured that the collection would remain in the Peter Paul Rubens Foundation.

In 1992, Lambrecht-Schadeberg began collecting works by the award-winning Rubens Prize winners:
