Jean-François Blondel (also: François Blondel * 1683 in Rouen ; † October 8, 1756 in Paris ) was a French architect , decorator and engraver , painter and illustrator .

Life

Jean-François Blondel was the uncle of Jean-Baptiste Michel Vallin de la Mothe and the French architect Jacques-François Blondel , who was also his teacher. Blondel worked for a time as treasurer for the buildings of the King of France and was accepted into the Académie royale d'architecture in 1728 . His architectural style is considered sober, French classicisme , which in the first half of the 18th century, for example, was viewed by builders in Geneva as an expression of "good taste", "[...] which is preferable to" pomp "."
