Jacques-François Blondel
Jacques-François Blondel (born January 8, 1705 in Rouen , † January 9, 1774 in Paris ) was a French architect , art theorist , architectural historian and contributor to the Encyclopédie .
Life
Jacques-François Blondel was the nephew of the architect Jean-François Blondel (1683–1756) and should not be confused with François Blondel (1618–1668). Jacques-François Blondel was married to Manon Balletti , a French actress and former lover of Giacomo Casanova, since 1760 .

Career
Jacques-François Blondel began his career as a copper engraver for architectural motifs and became one of the most important architecture teachers in France in the 18th century. He was a representative of classicism . In 1755 he was accepted into the Academie d'architectes. His standard work in four volumes, L'Architecture française (1752–56) made him well known and in 1755 he was appointed court architect to King Louis XV. He is considered to be one of the founders of modern urban planning .
From 1740 he gave architecture courses in Paris at the École des Arts , which he founded and which were recognized by the Académie royale d'architecture in 1743 . Among his students were Étienne-Louis Boullée , Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart , Jean-Françoise-Thérèse Chalgrin , Philippe de La Guêpière , Louis Jean Desprez , Charles de Wailly , Jacques Gondoin , Pierre Michel d'Ixnard , Claude-Nicolas Ledoux , Jean- Baptiste Rondelet , Nicolas de Pigage , the Anglo-Swede William Chambers and the Dane Caspar Frederik Harsdorff .
