Samsung Galaxy is the e-sports - works team of the largest South Korean conglomerate Samsung and was founded on 9 June 2000 under the name "Samsung KHAN" renamed in September 2013, "Galaxy".

history

StarCraft

The team was founded in 2000 and is one of the KeSPA - Proleague teams in StarCraft : Broodwar and its successor Starcraft 2 . In 2008 the team won the ProLeague and was nominated in the category eSports Team of the Year at the eSports Awards, but had to admit defeat to the Danish Counter-Strike team by the German clan mTw .

The members of the team were also able to collect successes in individual tournaments, especially the Protoss players Stork and JangBi were among the most successful players in StarCraft: Brood War. Stork won the World Cyber Games (WCG) in 2007 and an OSL (2008) , among others . He also reached three more OSL and two more WCG finals. JangBi won two OSL finals at the end of the Brood War period (2011 and 2012).

In StarCraft 2, RorO won the Global StarCraft II League Season 1 in 2013 .

League of Legends

In 2013, the League of Legends division of MVP was signed . There is a transfer fee in the clear six-digit dollar range for both MVP teams ("Ozone" and "Blue"). MVP Ozone had qualified in advance for the Riot League of Legends World Championship , which is worth over $ 2 million . Under the new team name Samsung Galaxy Ozone , the team surprisingly dropped out of the group stage.

At the OGN Champions Winter 2013/14 Samsung Ozone took second place and only had to admit defeat to the world champion SK Telecom T1 . In the following OGN Spring 2014 season, Samsung Blue took first place after winning the team-internal duel against Ozone in the semi-finals. After the season, the Ozone team changed names and has been called Samsung White since then. In the OGN summer season, the two Samsung teams met again in the semifinals. Again Blue won, but then lost to the KT Rolster Arrows in the final .

Both teams qualified for the highlight of the 2014 season, the World Cup in Korea. For the third time within a year, both teams met in the semi-finals of a major tournament. This time White was able to take a convincing victory and defeated Blue 3-0. In the final, Samsung White secured the grand prize of one million dollars with a 3-1 victory over the Chinese team StarHorn Royal Club . Support player Cho "Mata" Se-hyoung was also named MVP of the tournament. After the World Cup, both teams disintegrated as most of the players accepted high-value offers from Chinese teams. In 2015, Samsung is therefore playing with a completely new team.

In the Riot League of Legends World Championship 2017, Samsung Galaxy defeated record world champion SK Telecom T1 3-0 in the final. With this result, Samsung says goodbye to the competitive area for League of Legends. KSV eSports bought the entire team after winning the title.

Others

In the past, the team also hired players in the FIFA, Quake III, Age of Empires II and WarCraft III disciplines .
