Samuel Birman (* 11. August 1793 in Basel , † 27. September 1847 ) was a Swiss landscape painter of romanticism .
Life
His landscape painting works are strongly influenced at the beginning by his father Peter Birmann , from whom he was also trained. At first he looked for his motifs in the Jura and the Baden neighborhood, later his preferred motifs were in the Bernese Oberland , Wallis and Savoy .
Many of his works, the most important of which date from around 1820, are now in the Kunstmuseum Basel .
He was married to Juliana Birmann-Vischer (* 1785; † 1859), who after his death in 1853 adopted Martin Grieder , who went down in the canton history of Basel-Landschaft through his social and political commitment .
