Samuel Christian Lappenberg

Samuel Christian Lappenberg (born August 17, 1720 in Bremen , † August 15, 1788 in Lesum ) was a German theologian and historian.

biography

Lappenberg was the son of the Verden cathedral pastor Johann Diedrich Lappenberg . He attended the cathedral school and the Athenaeum in Bremen . From 1739 he studied in Göttingen . In 1747 he became sub-rector at the Athenaeum. In 1848 he founded the Bremen German Society , which resided in the commercial building and advocated literature, history and folklore. In 1754 he became a pastor in Hammelwörden (today part of Wischhafen in the Stade district ). In 1759 he took over a pastor's office in Lesum. He was an employee of the German library . For them he wrote theological works and a work on the history of the Duchy of Bremen (from 1256) and a work on the history of the Reformation in the Archbishopric of Bremen. He also wrote hymns, stories and scientific treatises.

The Hamburg historian Johann Martin Lappenberg was his grandson.
