Samuel Hogarth
Samuel Hogarth (* in London ) is an English conductor, composer and pianist.
biography
Hogarth completed his studies and Masters in Music and Musicology from the University of Oxford , where he graduated with top marks in his year. In addition, Hogarth was the conductor of the Isis University Ensemble for New Music and a guest of the Oxford City Opera. During the 2008/09 season, Hogarth was employed as a repetitor and conductor at the National Opera Studio in London, where he worked with Sir Richard Armstrong and David Syrus. Hogarth was also tutored by Sir Mark Elder , Sir Colin Davis, and Hugh Wolff . He later worked at the Cologne Opera , where he directed world premieres of works by Marius Felix Lange (Snow White) and Ingried Hoffmann (Vom Fischer and his wife) . From 2011 he worked as a répétiteur at the Hamburg State Opera. In addition, an engagement took him to the Hamburg State Opera , where he conducted the highly acclaimed first production in the Black Box series , with music by Aribert Reimann .
Hogarth was a guest in 2012 at Berbuiguières Castle in southern France in a new production by Falstaff with the English orchestra I Maestri . In 2008 he conducted Don Giovanni at the same location . He undertook other engagements with the Loh-Orchester Sondershausen , his own ensemble The Cambridge Bach Players (including Bach's St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion) and the Queens' College Opera , with which he conducted the second production of his own opera David and Goliath in 2008 . A scene from this piece was performed in February 2012 as part of a showcase evening for young composers at the Royal Opera House in London. Samuel Hogarth is also active as a jazz pianist and has performed in venues such as the Vortex Jazz Club and St Paul's Cathedral .
In February 2014, Hogarth's children's opera Zwerg Nase , a work commissioned by the Hamburg State Opera with a libretto by Wolfgang Willaschek, was performed there. He wrote for the film A Mighty Heart (A Mighty Heart) by Angelina Jolie (2007) two compositions, which he also played for the soundtrack.
Since the 2014/15 season, Hogarth has been working as Kapellmeister at the Mainz State Theater .
