Samuel Hood, 1st Baronet
Sir Samuel Hood, 1st Baronet , KB ( November 27, 1762 - December 24, 1814 in Madras ) was a Vice Admiral in the British Royal Navy .
Life
He came from the older line of the Hood family of sailors . The younger line came from z. B. the two famous admirals Samuel Hood, 1st Viscount Hood , and Alexander Hood, 1st Viscount Bridport .
He entered the Royal Navy with the rank of midshipman in 1776 and rose to the rank of Vice-Admiral of the White in 1811 . He was also accepted as a Knight Companion in the Order of the Bath .
In 1804 he married the Hon. Mary Frederica Elizabeth Mackenzie, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Francis Humberston Mackenzie, 1st Baron Seaforth .
On April 13, 1809, he was raised to the hereditary minor nobility with the title Baronet , of St Audries in the County of Somerset. Since he had no children, the award was made with the special addition that the title in the absence of his own male descendants also to his nephew Alexander Hood (1793-1851), son of his older brother Alexander Hood (1758-1798), and his male descendants is inheritable. When he died childless in 1814, his nephew followed him accordingly as 2nd baronet.
