Samuel Kobia

Samuel Kobia (born March 20, 1947 in Miathene , Meru Central District ) is a Kenyan pastor of the Methodist Church in Kenya .

Kobia studied theology at St. Paul's College in Kenya, has a diploma for Church services in urban areas (Urban Ministry) from McCormick Theological Seminary, USA (1972) and an MA in urban planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , USA (1978). In 1993 he earned a doctorate in theology from Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis , USA .

Kobia is married and has four children.

He is a member of the Honorary Committee of the International Coordination for the Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World (2001-2010).

He was general secretary of the World Council of Churches from 2004 to 2009 . On August 27, 2009, the WCC assembly elected the Norwegian pastor Olav Fykse Tveit to succeed Kobia.
