Samuel Kunz, a native of the Volga German , was trained in the Trawniki SS training camp and was a security guard at the Belzec extermination camp from January 1942 to July 1943 . He lived in Germany after the end of World War II , worked as a craftsman for the Bonn Federal Ministry of Construction and received German citizenship.

Kunz is said to have assisted the murder of 430,000 people. He had admitted his past as an SS man in several interrogations, but denied having been involved in individual shootings. He was ranked third among the most wanted Nazi war criminals worldwide by the Simon Wiesenthal Center .
