Samuel Ramey
Samuel Edward Ramey (born March 28, 1940 , according to other sources 1942, in Colby , Kansas ) is an American opera singer ( bass ).
Life
Ramey was educated at Wichita State University and privately, and made his debut at New York City Opera in 1972 as Zuniga in Carmen .
Among other things, he is considered a stage devil par excellence (Mephistopheles in La damnation de Faust , Faust and Mefistofele ; Nick Shadow in The Rake's Progress , the four evil spirits in Les Contes d'Hoffmann ). He also sang Figaro ( Le nozze di Figaro ), the title role of Don Giovanni , Escamillo in Carmen and Pimen in Boris Godunow . Samuel Ramey's voice is a sonorous basso cantante that is able to present ornate arias (music by Handel, Rossini etc.).
Samuel Ramey has been married to the soprano Lindsey Larsen since June 29, 2002. They have one son.
