Samuli Pohjamo

Samuli Pohjamo (born April 4, 1950 in Oulu ) is a Finnish editor and politician as well as current member of the European Parliament for the Finnish Center Party , part of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe .

Samuli Pohjamo was born in Oulu in 1950. He graduated from Turku University and graduated in 1972 with a master's degree in political science. He later settled in Haukipudas , where he still lives. From 1982 to 1996 he was a member of the community council of Haukipudas. Before that, between 1980 and 1986 Pohjamo was managing director of the district organization of the Center Party in Northern Ostrobothnia . 1986 to 1990 he worked as a farmer .

In 1990 Pohjamo became editor-in-chief of the Suomenmaa newspaper , the main organ of the Center Party. He held this post until 1999 . After Finland became a member of the European Union in 1995 , it ran in 1996 for the subsequent European elections to the 4th European Parliament , which was held in Finland , but missed the required number of votes. Pohjamo has been a member of the Provincial Parliament of North Ostrobothnia since 1996 and has also been a deputy member of the board of the Finnish Association of Local Authorities since 1997.

When MEP Sirkka-Liisa Anttila was elected to the Finnish Parliament in the Finnish parliamentary elections in March 1999 and resigned her seat in the European Parliament, Pohjamo took her place there in April. Olli Rehn, who was originally intended for the orphaned European mandate, had previously waived it. In the 1999 European elections , Pohjamo managed to keep his seat in the European Parliament, but was not re-elected in the 2004 European elections .

After the Finnish politician Paavo Väyrynen was elected to the Finnish Parliament in 2007 and thus left the European Parliament to become Minister for Foreign Trade, Pohjamo has been a member of the European Parliament again since April 23, 2007.
