San Antonio de Padua (commonly known as Padua for short ) is a city in the province of Buenos Aires in eastern Argentina , which is part of the Gran Buenos Aires metropolitan area . Padua is a city in the Partido Merlo . Mayor ( Intendente ) of the city, 29 km from the center of Buenos Aires, is Gustavo Menéndez. The 37,755 inhabitants of the place determined according to the official statistics of 2001 call themselves Paduense.

The city was named in honor of Anthony of Padua .
