San Carlos ( Western Apaches : Sengaa ) is a census-designated place in Gila County in the US state of Arizona . San Carlos has 3716 inhabitants on an area of 22.9 km². The village is at 801 m. ü. M. on San Carlos Lake in the San Carlos Apache Reservation in the south of the county. 58.8% of the people live below the poverty line. This makes San Carlos one of the poorest Indian settlements in the United States . San Carlos is affected by US Highway 70 .
