Sandhof is a part of the municipality of Oberhaid in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg .

Sandhof lies at an altitude of 297 to 304 meters. Neighboring towns are Godeldorf in the northeast , Johannishof in the southeast , Oberhaid in the south and Unterhaid in the southwest . The Franconian Marienweg runs through Sandhof .

history

The Sandhof was first mentioned in 1497. The name comes from the sandy subsoil in this area. At the beginning of the 17th century there was a farmhouse, a day laborer's house, two grain barns and a sheepfold. From 1639 to 1773 the Bamberg Jesuit order lived in the courtyard. A chapel built in 1713 was outside of Sandhof and was demolished in 1755. From 1755 to 1759, today's Franz Xaver Chapel was built within the ring wall of Sandhof. During the secularization of 1803, the Sandhofer chapel was supposed to be demolished, but the Oberhaid pastor referred to the existing pilgrimage and was successful with his objection. Even today there are pilgrimages from Oberhaidern to Sandhof every year. In the 1960s, Sandhof came into private ownership. Sandhof belonged to the municipality of Unterhaid until April 30, 1978, before this municipality was incorporated into Oberhaid as part of the municipal reform.
