Sandra Pierantozzi , née Sandra Sumang (born August 9, 1953 in Koror ) is a politician from Palau .

biography

Between 1989 and 1993, Sandra Pierantozzi was Minister of Administration and Finance in President Ngiratkel Etpison's government . She was elected Senator in the 1996 elections.

On November 7, 2000 she was elected Vice President of Palau and took office with the swearing-in on January 1, 2001. She was then deputy to President Tommy Remengesau . At the same time she took over the office of Minister of Health in the government. In her role as Vice President, she spoke at the 57th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York about the effects of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 . In the presidential elections on November 2, 2004, President Remengesau was able to prevail, but she was clearly defeated by her challenger Elias Camsek Chin with 71.1 percent to 28.9 percent. However, in 2005 she was elected a member of the 2nd Constituent Assembly.

The newly elected President Johnson Toribiong nominated her on January 21, 2009 as Minister of State. After confirmation by the Senate with 11 to 2 votes, she was officially able to take up this office on February 6, 2009.

Sandra Pierantozzi is married to Marcello Pierantozzi, Honorary Consul of Italy in Palau.
