Elias Camsek Chin (born October 10, 1949 in Peleliu ) is a Palaui politician .

Life

Chin, called "cowboy" in his childhood because of his enthusiasm for American cowboys , attended Farrington High School in Honolulu , Hawaii , and later studied at the University of Hawaii . He successfully graduated from the Electronic Institute of Hawaii .

At the University of Hawaii, Chin met Miriam Rudimch, whom he married on May 21, 1977. They have two children, Lalii Antolina, a lawyer, and Nathan Lee Beches, who is studying medicine at the University of Hawaii .

Army career and political career

Chin joined the US Army , where he was to serve as a fighter pilot for 20 years . During this time he attended several army schools, which he also successfully completed. It was not until 1997 that Chin, who had previously been honored many times, left the army.

Now he became Minister of Justice under President Kuniwo Nakamura , which the Olbiil Era Kelulau, the Palau parliament , unanimously accepted. Chin held this office until 2000. From 2005 to 2009 he was Vice President of his country after his election victory over Sandra Pierantozzi . In 2008, Chin ran against Johnson Toribiong for the presidential election, against whom he lost in a runoff election in early November of the same year. Toribiong received 51% of the vote.
