Sangha

The Sangha (formerly also Ssanga) is a right tributary of the Congo in the Republic of the Congo .

course

The catchment area of the Sangha with that of the Likouala

It arises from the confluence of the Kadéï and Mambéré near Nola in the extreme southwest of the Central African Republic . From there it flows south. Below Salo it is the border river between Cameroon and the Central African Republic, or Cameroon and the Republic of the Congo. In the lower reaches the Sangha is swampy and ramified. There it often has connections to other rivers. It flows into the Congo near Mossaka . It shares the estuary with the Likouala .

ecology

The Sangha is the most important lifeline for the local population, such as traditional fishermen and namesake of the Dzanga Sangha Tropical Forest Reserve and the trinational protected area on the Sangha River , which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site under the name Sangha Trinational .

Hydrometry

Average monthly flow through the Sangha measured at the hydrological station in Ouésso , about 400 km above the confluence with the Congo in m³ / s (1947–1983).
