Saint Peter Church (Morsleben)
The Sankt-Petrus-Kirche is the Protestant church in the village of Morsleben in the municipality of Ingersleben in Saxony-Anhalt .
Architecture and history
The nave is made of quarry stone and has a rectangular floor plan and dates back to the Romanesque period . The gable lintel portal to the south of the tower as well as various, predominantly walled, arched openings also date from this time . A cross stone from the early Romanesque period is incorporated into the east wall . To the west of the nave there is a low church tower standing across the nave. The tower dates back to the 11th / beginning of the 12th century. In the tower there are remains of a pre-Romanesque three - part west building. Originally the tower was open to the nave on both the ground floor and the first floor. The bell storey dates from the Baroque period . The position of the arcades between the nave and the west building is unusual .
In 1489 the nave was extended to the east. The dating results from an inscription with an alliance coat of arms affixed to the southeast corner . Renovations were carried out in 1652 and 1721/22.
To the west of the church is a war memorial . The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery.
Interior
The interior of the ship is spanned by a flat ceiling. There are galleries on the north, east and west sides . The lavishly designed pulpit altar from 1722 is remarkable. It is assumed that the column-flanked altar with a rectangular pulpit was created by Michael Helwig . The coat of arms of the founder, the bailiff of the Marienberg Monastery, Georg Engelhardt Schlueter, was added to top it off. In the predella there is a painting with a scene of the Last Supper. In front of the pulpit are Christ and figures representing the four evangelists.
The baptism in the form of a chalice was created in 1900 in the style of historicism . In the tower there is a bell that probably dates from the end of the 13th century.
