Sankulay Kunda (spelling variant: Sankuli Kunda , Sankule Kunda ) is a town in the West African state of Gambia .

According to a calculation for 2013, there are around 799 inhabitants, the result of the last published census from 1993 was 559.

geography

Sankulay Kunda is located on the southern bank of the Gambia River in the Central River Region , Fulladu West District . The place is on the road that branches off from South Bank Road to the north, at Yero Beri Kunda , to Janjanbureh . The connection to Janjanbureh on Janjanbureh Island has so far been made via a ferry, and the Sankulay Kunda Bridge has enabled a connection to the island since mid-2011 .

Taiwan was the first Asian country to recognize independence from Gambia. In the 1960s they sent an agricultural expert, Frank D. Lee, to be the main pioneer in leading the technical team developing the irrigation system in the Central River Region. Lee died in 1966 after an illness, in his honor a bust was erected on a pedestal on the road to Janjanbureh .
