Santa Bárbara de Nexe is a village and a municipality in the Algarve in southern Portugal .
history
The traces of human presence go back to the Paleolithic . In the course of the ages Phoenicians had trading establishments here, later Romans and from the 8th century Arabs settled here.
Today's place was first documented as Neixe in a document from 1291. In the 16th century, Santa Bárbara de Nexe became an independent municipality.
