Santa Barbara Airlines , ( SBA ), was a Venezuelan airline based in Caracas and based at Caracas Airport . The airline ceased operations in November 2017 due to a lack of aircraft. Your air operator certificate was suspended for 90 days by the Venezuelan regulatory authorities at the end of January 2018. In July 2018, the company ceased operations.

history

The airline was founded on November 1, 1995 and began flight operations on March 1, 1996. Santa Barbara Airlines cooperates with the regional airline Islas Airways from Tenerife . Since the end of 2007 there have been plans to merge Santa Barbara Airlines with Aserca Airlines . First a Boeing 757-200 was given a combined paint job, consisting of the SBA Airlines title and the Aserca Airlines logo.

Destinations

Santa Barbara Airlines serviced by the Caracas airport from Panama City and Tenerife and Miami . There were also charter flights . An earlier route from Caracas to Madrid has now been discontinued.

Incidents

  • On February 21, 2008, an ATR 42-300 with the aircraft registration number YV1449 on the flight from Mérida to Caracas with 46 people on board hit a mountain and crashed. All inmates were killed in the crash a few minutes after the take-off, which occurred in the Coyado del Condor region . The extremely hectic flight crew had deliberately flown an unofficial abbreviation that deviated from the official departure procedure in order to save time (see also Santa Bárbara Airlines flight 518 ) .
