Avior Airlines is a Venezuelan airline based in Barcelona, ​​Venezuela and based at Barcelona Airport .

history

Avior Airlines was founded in 1994. A Cessna Skymaster and an Aero Commander 500 were purchased to ship oil to refineries. In 1995 the airline bought two Dornier Do 28s to expand national flight operations in Venezuela. The airline flew to Isla Margarita and Canaima for the first time . Some time later a Beechcraft 1900 and a Cessna 208 were bought. In 1999 it was possible to book online for the first time. The airline is privately owned.

Due to security concerns on the part of the EU Commission , Avior Airlines has been banned from operating in the airspace of the European Union since November 30, 2017 .

In addition to national routes, Avior Airlines also flies to some international destinations such as Miami or Bogotá , Lima and Martinique and also takes on charter flights .

Incidents

Avior Airlines recorded in its history two hijackings :

  • On July 25, 1998, four armed people hijacked a Beechcraft 1900 D ( license plate number unknown) during a domestic flight from Caracas to Barinas . They forced the crew to land the plane at a remote airport and flew on alone. The plane was found in Colombia in August and two people were arrested in connection with the hijacking. The plane was probably hijacked for drug trafficking .
  • On July 30, 1999, five people hijacked a Beechcraft 1900D (registration number YV-466C) during a domestic flight from Caracas via Barinas to Guasdualito . The plane was hijacked to Arauca , most likely by the FARC .
