Santa Maria Immacolata all'Esquilino is a Roman Catholic church and titular deaconry in the Rione Esquilino of Rome , on Via Emanuele Filiberto.
history
The church was built between 1896 and 1914 by the Frati della Carità (called Padri Bigi ), founded by Ludovico da Casoria, according to plans by the architects Cursi and Cortese. The church was consecrated on April 21, 1942 by Vicegerent Luigi Traglia . The church was built in neo-Gothic style and has a facade flanked by two towers. Above the entrance there is a mosaic depicting Mary as Immaculate . The interior consists of three naves.
The Padri Bigi congregation was dissolved in 1973. Today Santa Maria Immacolata all'Esquilino is a branch church of the parish of Santi Marcellino e Pietro al Laterano . In the building next to the church there are two schools run by Padri Bigi.
On June 28, 2018, Pope Francis raised the church to title diaconia, its first cardinal deacon is Konrad Krajewski .
