Konrad Cardinal Krajewski (born November 25, 1963 in Łódź , Poland ) is a Polish clergyman and Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Krajewski studied from 1982 at the seminary of Łódź and received on 11 June 1988, the priestly ordination . In 1990 he went to Rome to continue his studies at the Institut Sant 'Anselmo . In 1995 he graduated with a degree in theology specializing in liturgy. He returned to Poland and became master of ceremonies of the Archdiocese of Łódź . In 1997 he accompanied Pope John Paul II on his trip to Poland. He has lived in Rome since 1998 and was ceremonial at the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Pope until his appointment as Papal Almsman . John Paul II awarded him the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) in 2003 .

Pope Francis appointed Krajewski on August 3, 2013 as papal almsman and titular archbishop of Beneventum . He was ordained bishop by the President of the Governorate of Vatican City , Cardinal Giuseppe Bertello , on September 17th of the same year; Co- consecrators were the President of the Pontifical Committee for the Eucharistic Congresses , Archbishop Piero Marini , and the Old Archbishop of Łódź , Władysław Ziółek .

In the consistory of 28 June 2018 it took Pope Francis as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonie Santa Maria Immacolata all'Esquilino into the College of Cardinals on. On October 6 of the same year, the Pope appointed him a member of the Dicastery for the Holistic Development of Man .

In February 2019, he attracted attention when he celebrated the funeral mass for a Polish homeless man who died in Rome. In May 2019, as alms master of the Pope, he reactivated the power supply in a building near the church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme in Rome, which has been occupied by up to 500 people without permission since 2013 , by personally climbing into the distribution shaft and removing the security seals. He committed a criminal offense under Italian law and was reported by the network operator for stealing electricity. The people, about 100 of them children, had no electricity for a week because bills had not been paid. Krajewski announced that he would take over the costs and the electricity bill for the residents of the house.
