Piero Marini
Piero Marini (born January 13, 1942 in Valverde , Province of Pavia ) is an Italian Archbishop of Curia and President of the Pontifical Committee for the Eucharistic Congresses .
Life
Marini came in 1953 in the seminary of Bobbio and received on 27 June 1965, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He then worked as secretary to Archbishop Annibale Bugnini in the implementation of the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council .
Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Papal Honorary Prelate on April 2, 1986 and appointed him Master of Ceremonies for the Pope's liturgical celebrations on February 24, 1987 . From then until 2007, Marini was responsible for the organization and running of all services that were publicly celebrated by the Pope.
John Paul II appointed Marini titular Bishop of Martirano on February 14, 1998, and ordained him episcopal on March 19 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Cardinal State Secretary Angelo Sodano and the Archbishop of Kraków , Cardinal Franciszek Macharski . On September 29, 2003 he was raised pro hac vice to titular archbishop while maintaining his titular bishopric .
On October 1, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Piero Marini as president of the Pontifical Committee for the World Eucharistic Congresses and at the same time appointed Guido Marini as the new papal master of ceremonies. Pope Francis confirmed Marini on March 10, 2015 as President of the Committee for World Eucharistic Congresses. On September 1, 2015, the Pope appointed him Chairman of the Special Commission for the Liturgy within the Congregation for the Eastern Churches .
In 2009 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Theological Faculty of the University of Friborg in Switzerland.
On October 28, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments .
