Santiago Carrera , full name Santiago Nicolás Carrera Sanguinetti , (born March 5, 1994 in Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The 1.87 meter tall defensive player Carrera was under contract with River Plate Montevideo at the beginning of his career . In the 2010/11 season, the first division club had one use (no goal) in the Primera División for him. In 2012/13 he played 16 times in the top division with the Montevideans and scored three goals. In the 2013/14 season he played three more league games (no goal) for River Plate Montevideo. In 2014 he moved to league rivals Sud América during that season . There he came to 14 first division appearances in the Clausura and scored one goal. After SSC Napoli Sud América had submitted an offer to sign the player at the end of January 2014 , it was reported in July 2014 that the Italian club Sassuolo was interested in signing Carrera. A transfer did not take place. In the 2014/15 season Carrera was set up 14 times (two goals) in the top Uruguayan division. In mid-January 2015 he switched to the Argentine club Club Atlético Huracán on loan until December 2015 and played two top division games (no goal) until his last appearance on April 18, 2015. However, he returned prematurely to Sud América and was loaned to first division promoted Liverpool Montevideo in late July 2015 . With the Montevideans he ran eight times (no goal) in the Primera División in the Apertura 2015. At the beginning of February 2016 he returned to Sud América and scored two goals in twelve first division appearances in Clausura 2016. In the 2016 season, he played eleven first division games (no goal), followed by ten other first division appearances (no goal) by the end of Torneo Intermedio 2017. Defensor Sporting signed him in August 2017 .

National team

Carrera was in the squad of the Uruguayan U-17 selection at the U-17 South American Championship 2011 in Ecuador . He also took part with her at the 2011 U-17 World Cup in Mexico . He contributed with two preliminary rounds against the selection teams from Rwanda and Canada to win the runner-up world title.
