Santiago Silva , full name Santiago Silva Gerez , (born August 26, 1990 in Artigas or Montevideo ) is a Uruguayan football player .

Career

The 1.80 meter tall offensive player Silva comes from the youth department of Danubio FC and was part of the first division squad since the Apertura 2008 at the beginning of his career . In the 2010/11 season there are three appearances (no goal) in the Primera División for him. In July 2011, he joined Danubio's league rivals and city rivals Peñarol . In the 2011/12 season he was then used 19 times in the top Uruguayan league and scored six goals. He also played in two matches (no goal) of the Copa Libertadores . For the 2012/13 season, in which Peñarol won the national championship, there are no deployment data for him at the "Aurinegros". In the 2013/14 season he was set up again (no goal) in the Primera División. In early January 2014 he was loaned to the Peruvian club Universidad San Martín . There he was used 29 times in the Primera División and scored 23 goals. He was the top scorer of the Torneo Descentralizado 2014 ahead of Juan Ramón Rodríguez , Cristhian Venancio Bogado and Bernardo Nicolás Cuesta (17 goals each) . He also scored six times in the Torneo del Inca 2014 , so that he scored 29 goals in a total of 42 games for the Peruvians (0.69 goals per game) and was the most successful player in the Peruvian football year 2014 in this regard. At the beginning of 2015, he returned to Peñarol. Until the end of the season there are no further appearances for him with the "Aurinegros". In September 2015, he moved to league rivals Club Atlético Cerro , for whom he played six first division games and scored three goals in Apertura 2015. Since the beginning of January 2016 he has continued his career at Sporting Cristal in Peru. There he was used in 35 first division games (eleven goals) and six games (three goals) of the Copa Libertadores 2016 . At the beginning of January 2017, América de Cali signed him . With the Colombians he came to 22 games and 5 goals in the whole season. In January 2018 he moved to Chile to the first division CD Universidad de Concepción .

National team

Silva was a member of the Uruguayan U-15 team coached by Ángel Castelnoble , which took part in the U-15 South American Championship in Bolivia in 2005 . He also played in the Uruguayan U-17 national team and was part of the squad at the U-17 South American Championship in Ecuador in 2007 . With the Pan America selection (U-22) of Uruguay, he took part in the Pan American Games in 2011 and won the bronze medal with the team. He contributed to this with three international appearances (no goal).
